10 Destinations on Our Bucket List

Some of our favorite things about hopping the globe are the places we get to stay. Resorts, hotels, inns, B&Bs, you name them, we love them, we go on vacations for them. Though we do love a good staycation (don’t pretend you’ve never gotten a room at a nearby hotel room just to order room service!), discovering foreign home-away-from-homes is a much-treasured pastime. We’ve done our research and found some of the world’s must-go-to haunts that we can’t wait to visit ourselves. Here are 10 bucket list destinations we’re dying to check in to this year.

Amangiri Resort, Canyon Point, UT, USA
We’ve only heard stunning things about this place. When you first arrive at the Amangiri Resort, you’ll not only die over the breathtaking views of the desert, but you’ll also swoon over the attentive service. There are so many activities offered here, like rock climbing (take the course with JJ!), yoga, and horseback riding that you’ll never get bored. The food is healthy yet scrumptious, and the room service s’mores are on another level. If you can, book the room with the private pool. So worth it.

Royal Mansour Marrakech, Marrakech, Morocco
True to its name, at the Royal Mansour Marrakech, be prepared to be treated like royalty. From the white lace architecture to the luscious gardens, the hotel is honestly a home away from home. Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the nearby markets by getting a treatment at the renown spa, or indulge in the afternoon tea service. The large, multi-level rooms, or Riads, are simply divine and perfect for a trip with friends.

COMO Shambhala Estate, Payangan, Indonesia
The COMO Shambhala Estate can only be called a true escape from the world. Literally in the jungle, the Estate is a place of meditation and relaxation where you can tune out excess noise and tune into private pools and steam baths. We’re dying to try the Stress Management Program. A place of health and wellness, everything from the linen to the food (get the cookbook!) is serene. Did we mention you get your own personal assistant? Just, wow.

Post Ranch Inn, Big Sur, CA, USA
Have you ever been to a hotel that gives you binoculars upon arrival? Neither have we. With views of the Pacific ocean, Post Ranch Inn provides dark starry nights, beautiful California sunsets, and, yes, whale watching. Sierra Mar, the hotel restaurant, offers up local, fresh fare paired perfectly with the right glass of wine. While the secluded pool and hot tub are incredibly IG-worthy (you’ll feel like you’re on top of the world!), don’t miss the hotel’s small library, only one of the hotels many hidden gems.

Treehotel, Harads, Sweden
It’s a hotel. In a tree. And, uh, you’d be crazy if you didn’t want to stay here. Like something out of a fantasy world, the family-owned Treehotel will give you a genuinely unique experience you are likely not to find anywhere else. With activities like snowshoeing, ice fishing, and pizza making, you’ll get immersed both in Swedish culture and a welcoming, cozy community. Be aware: this place is COLD (we’re talking negative numbers!), so be sure to bundle up.

Grand Hotel Tremezzo, Tremezzina, Italy on Lake Como
It’s said that when you step into the Grand Hotel Tremezzo, you’ll be transported through time. An old-time resort with modern luxuries, the hotel lies on the beautiful Lake Como and has such spectacular views of the water, you’ll hardly want to leave your porch. But, with mountains to hike, the Villa Carlotta to visit, and the 12th century St. Bartholomew’s chapel to see, you’ll need to adventure off sometime! Plus, you’ll find free-flowing prosecco at the hotel’s exceptional breakfast buffets. No complaints!

Andaz Costa Rica Resort at Peninsula Papagayo, Costa Rica
Once you visit the Andaz, the story goes, you’ll never want to leave. On the beach with forest views, the hotel is tranquil yet modern with killer design. Sit by the beach (or the pools!) and soak in the sun. Be sure to go kayaking and paddleboarding on the blue waters. (Or maybe just stay on the sand and sip on the delicious smoothies! Indulge!) Oh, you’ll also meet many new friends: the hotel and its beach are no strangers to monkeys and other wildlife.

The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort, French Polynesia
So, this hotel has a restaurant that sits on top of a shark tank. Do we need to go further? The food has been raved about as well as the over-the-water bungalows with views of the Otemanu mountains. (The sunsets are said to be out of this world.) The beautiful, clear water begs for snorkeling, and being right on the ocean, we almost wonder the need for private pools!

Hotel Saint Cecilia, Austin, TX, USA
We love Austin, and we’ve been simply dying to visit the Hotel Saint Cecilia. Tucked away in the greenery of residential Austin, the hotel has a magical aura and a serious feeling of home. The place is perfectly secluded, and you’ll feel like the queen of the castle when you arrive to your own private terrace. All of the rooms have their own funky story to tell, plus a hefty stack of vinyl for you get your groove on.

Amansara, Siem Reap, Cambodia
Serene and warm, Amansara is the perfect homebase when visiting Angkor in Cambodia. Surrounded by history, the hotel has impeccable service and the best traditional Khmer food around. (If you’re worried, they also serve Western fare.) The staff is knowledgeable and will happily set you up with cultural trips and adventures in the surrounding area. Tour the Angkor Wat Temples during the day and return to a prepared warm bath at night. No detail is overlooked.
